Working from home ? How to share files using the FRITZ!Box and FRITZ!NAS

AVM Content

With many of us working from home, sending and receiving files and folders is important for remote collaboration. With FRITZ!NAS, FRITZ!Box has the perfect solution on board for access shared data wherever you are. Below, we’ll show you how to get started and offer some tips and tricks for sharing files with team members, friends or family.

A secure way to access files

Network Attached Storage (NAS) is an easy and secure solution for exchanging files and documents over a network. You don’t need to rush out and buy extra hardware, as FRITZ!Box has FRITZ!NAS on board. The FRITZ!NAS function makes files stored on an external hard drive etc. available for shared access. It’s great for when you’re using your home network, and we explain below how it also works remotely. Our FRITZ!NAS guide has additional information on the convenience features.

Sharing files and documents with FRITZ!NAS

If your company has a FRITZ!Box, you can give employees working from home access to the FRITZ!NAS data in just a few simple steps. The MyFRITZ! Service helps makes things even more secure and convenient. Your personal data is always and exclusively stored on your FRITZ!Box and is never transferred to AVM’s MyFRITZ! Service or other services or providers. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Register your FRITZ!Box with MyFRITZ! and activate MyFRITZ! Internet access. Check out our guide for more information.
  2. On the FRITZ!Box, set up separate accounts for each user and allow Internet and FRITZ!NAS access.
  3. Foward the FRITZ!Box’s MyFRITZ! URL to your team members.

Now you and your team can access the shared data from FRITZ!NAS by logging on to the FRITZ!Box via the MyFRITZ! URL with your own login details.

Combining forces: FRITZ!NAS and MyFRITZ!

FRITZ!NAS and MyFRITZ! allow you to share files with colleagues and friends. This is especially useful if you want to share content with others, but do not want or are not allowed to upload data onto standard cloud services.

To do this, your FRITZ!Box must be accessible via the MyFRITZ! service. Then it’s easy:

In the FRITZ!NAS user interface, navigate to the desired file, right click on the entry and select the “Share” option. You’ll then receive a link that you can pass on, for example by email.

Check out the Knowledge Base for more information on granting access.
